Overview

UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has three current job openings for QCW HVACR positions at the Storrs Campus. These are permanent, full-time, 37.5 hour per week positions. The hourly salary is $31.86/hour and is non-negotiable. These positions offer a full benefits package including medical and dental insurance. The 2nd and 3rd shift positions are eligible for shift differential. Weekend differential is applied to hours worked on Saturday or Sunday if the entire 7.5-hour shift is worked. Base pay and Schedule

Base pay range: $62,359.00/yr - $80,175.00/yr. Salary range: $62,359.00-$80,175.00 per year. Individuals new to state service start at the minimum of the pay plan. This job posting is anticipated to be removed at 11:55 p.m. Eastern time on November 30, 2025. Responsibilities (Examples of Duties)

Performs highly skilled tasks in accordance with standard HVACR trade practices and codes on air systems used in heating, ventilating and refrigeration; operates, maintains, repairs, installs, modifies and assembles air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems; determines required cooling capacity; uses a psychometric chart; monitors and controls air flow and room conditions; supports automated control systems; conducts tests and materials management for assigned tasks; keeps records; may be the sole worker in a smaller trade area; may inspect and repair steam traps and insulation; may interact with other units and contacts; may operate heavy equipment; may respond to emergencies during overtime (nights, weekends, or holidays). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply standard tools, materials, methods, and standard HVACR trade practices; interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare estimates and maintain shop records; some ability to utilize computer software. Minimum Qualifications

General Experience:

Four (4) years of experience in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration trade. Special Experience:

Two (2) years of General Experience must have been performing skilled HVACR trades. For State Employees, this is interpreted at the level of Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2. Substitutions:

Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma may substitute for two years of General Experience; at UConn, internship training may substitute for General and Special Experience as determined by Facilities Operations and Human Resources; at other State Agencies, two years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Intern may substitute for General and Special Experience; year-for-year substitution for HVACR-related military experience. Preferred Qualifications:

Active S-2 or S-1 license; extensive HVACR knowledge; current universal refrigerant transition and recovery certificate. Special Requirements and Physical/Working Conditions

Must possess and retain a State of Connecticut heating, piping, and/or cooling license. Ability to read mechanical blueprints. May require lifting, use of protective equipment, and exposure to hazardous materials in accordance with EPA guidelines. Physical examination may be required. Incumbents may be required to work during emergency closures or events and to participate in an on-call rotation with 15-minute response time. May be assigned to any Regional Campuses as needed.
