Primary Purpose Under indirect supervision, accurately and efficiently certify/recertify WIC participants based upon Federal regulations and State of Hawaii Department of Health WIC policies using the HIWIC computer system. Assists in all aspects of WIC services. Supports the mission, goals and objectives of Kalihi-Palama Health Center.
Essential Duties
Maintain professional customer service towards all participants and staff
Perform routine clerical duties with ability to type 25 wpm, use fax/scan/copy machine
Accurately orient participants to the WIC program
Give directions to KPHC WIC clinic via all modes of transportation
Use audio visual equipment for WIC orientation video
Accurately explain the WIC program/history/foods approved
Accurately and efficiently certify/recertify WIC participants based upon Federal regulations and State of Hawaii Department of Health WIC policies
Complete presumptive eligibility whenever possible and schedule follow up accordingly
Accurately, verbally outline and record all aspects of WIC eligibility requirements, ID, household income eligibility and required documents to prove eligibility and Med-Quest verification
Use the HIWIC system to perform essential duties and other duties as assigned
Determine and record first and second authorized caregivers
Verbalize e-WIC card details
Issue and activate e-WIC card
Assist setting participants PIN
Direct participants in resetting/unlocking e-WIC PIN using IVR number
Deactivate card, set appointment for participants to retrieve new card
Retrieve and assess necessary foster care documents and legal guardianship documents
Follow policies and procedures to issue e-WIC card and benefits to foster clients
Record new pregnancy and end of pregnancy accurately
Complete in-state WIC transfers accurately
Print Verification of Certification (VOC) accurately
Know contact information to other WIC programs to help clients transfer if needed
Apply for Hawaii WIC, issue e-WIC card and benefits to out-of-state transfers accurately
Check participants address/zip and phone number at each visit
Answer the phone, take messages and return phone calls in a timely manner
Retrieve phone messages/emails and return calls/email in a timely manner
Measure, record, and interpret anthropometric data accurately
Measure (Masimo), record and interpret hematological data accurately
Be effective in motivational interviewing
Set and document SMART goals with WIC clients effectively
Create standard and tailored food packages accurately
Create Special Authorized food packages with approved authority accurately
Issue e-WIC benefits and explain usage
Verbalize all WIC eligible foods/formula correctly
Void and re-issue WIC cards/WIC benefits accurately
Modify benefit issuance/retailor foods accurately
Provide nutrition education contacts for all low-risk clients, read medical notes, get needed forms and make correct next appointment
Provide appropriate follow-up nutrition education counseling to high-risk clients after seeing the registered dietitian at least once per certification
Follow Special Formula and Medical Nutritional Products Issuance Guide to complete special authorization in HIWIC with approved authority
