High School Teacher Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; document teaching and student progress, activities, and outcomes; address specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Functions

Develop and administer high school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; provide individual and small group instruction as needed.

Instruct students in responsible citizenship principles and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.

Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.

Maintain accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.

Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.

Ensure that student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.

Coordinate with other staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.

Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, maintaining inventory records.

Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities, including those involving school transportation.

Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by the School Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements Travel to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.

Knowledge of high school curriculum and core concepts.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Work in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License

Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher.

Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is a plus.

FLSA Status Exempt.
