Supervisor Respiratory Therapy

Position Summary

The Cardiopulmonary Supervisor directs day-to-day clinical activities of the service. The role may require general floor coverage as needed. Responsibilities

Administer Oxygen Therapy with devices on a daily basis. Administer Aerosol Therapy daily with available devices. Administer Airway Pressure Therapy on a weekly basis. Instruct patients and set up Incentive Breathing Devices daily. Perform chest percussion and postural drainage by hand or mechanical percussor daily. Monitor Arterial Oxygen Saturation via pulse oximetry daily. Monitor disposable item change-out policy daily. Observe cleaning and sterilization procedures as required. Set up and operate mechanical ventilators daily. Set up and operate suction regulators and cannisters weekly. Suction patient airways via ETT, tracheostomy, or NT using aseptic technique. Conduct ventilator checks with timely documentation daily. Respond to codes and ensure airway integrity and ventilation during resuscitation as required. Set up and initiate Noninvasive Ventilation (BiPAP) as needed. Obtain arterial blood samples via puncture or arterial line daily. Perform Arterial Blood Gas analysis as required. Perform basic spirometry as needed. Obtain good quality EKG tracings daily and recognize basic arrhythmias and ischemia patterns. Complete documentation and related charges in the medical records promptly. Direct tasks and workflow of respiratory personnel as required. Provide departmental orientation for new employees. Develop and update departmental schedules to ensure coverage. Develop and update departmental policies and procedures as needed. Ensure adequate disposable supplies and prudent inventory control. Complete and submit performance evaluations timely. Maintain QA/QC activities and pursue continuous quality improvement. Adhere to safety initiatives and protocols. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date. NBRC-RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist). State-licensed Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner (RRT/RCP). Associate degree in a related field. 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting.
