The Quality and Food Safety Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of product quality and food safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment specializing in extruded and popcorn snack products. This position leads a team of Quality Control (QC) Technicians across A, B, and C shifts, ensuring adherence to regulatory, customer, and company requirements. The Supervisor will assist the Quality Manager in implementing and maintaining systems in compliance with FSMA and SQF standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership:
Supervise, schedule, and train a team of QC Technicians on all shifts (A, B, and C). Monitor performance, provide feedback, and support development of QC team members. Ensure consistent application of quality and food safety protocols across all shifts.
Quality and Food Safety Programs:
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Food Safety Plan (Preventive Controls for Human Food under 21 CFR Part 117). Ensure compliance with SQF certification requirements and participate in internal and external audits. Review production records, sanitation logs, and quality documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Process Control & Verification:
Oversee routine product and environmental monitoring activities, including sensory evaluation, metal detection, allergen verification, ATP swabbing, and weight control. Investigate product quality or food safety issues and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain and review QC documentation such as batch records, HACCP logs, and deviation reports. Prepare summaries and reports on quality trends and non-conformances for management review.
Training & Communication:
Train plant personnel on GMPs, allergen controls, and food safety procedures. Prepare and implement key Standard Operating Procedures as needed. Serve as a liaison between production and quality to ensure clear understanding of standards and expectations.
Qualifications:
Must be Bilingual (English / Spanish) 2-5 years of experience in food manufacturing QA/QC, preferably in snack foods or RTE environments. Knowledge of FSMA (21 CFR Part 117) and SQF (or similar GFSI benchmarked standard). Supervisory or team lead experience required. HACCP certification and PCQI certification preferred. Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment. Working Conditions:
Manufacturing environment with exposure to allergens including dairy and soy. Occasional off-shift or weekend work may be required to support audits, investigations, or training.
