Water Quality & Environmental Compliance Specialist
Join American Water in Huntington, WV. This field-based role involves collecting and analyzing water samples to ensure appropriate standards are met. You will perform routine water quality analyses, sample custody, data entry, and recordkeeping. Interpret water quality results and initiate chemical dosage changes to the treatment process. Organize functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for assigned facility. Investigate water quality complaints and maintain lab certifications. Key Accountabilities: Conduct sampling and analysis to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality regulations. Evaluate treatment processes and recommend modifications to maintain or improve water quality. Identify potential issues, initiate responsive actions, and mitigate environmental violations. Monitor and adjust water quality blow-off devices for regulatory compliance. Maintain re-chlorination treatment systems throughout the distribution system. Monitor and troubleshoot analyzers, equipment, etc. to ensure performance standards are met. Work with internal and external customers to build good relationships and solve laboratory issues. Evaluate and monitor supplies and laboratory costs to assist in maintaining the lab budget. On-call responsibilities as needed. Knowledge/Skills: Basic chemistry and laboratory techniques and QA/QC programs. Regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access. Federal and state environmental standards and regulations. Proper lab analytical testing methods. Principles of water and/or wastewater treatment. Experience/Education: Associates degree in environmental or related field preferred; Bachelor's degree in physical, chemical or environmental sciences may be substituted for experience. Minimum Two (2) to four (4) years experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance. West Virginia DEP Water Operator license is encouraged. Work Schedule: Full-time, on-site. Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm. Overtime as needed. Travel Requirements: Local and occasional regional. Other Requirements: Must hold a valid state issued driver's license. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Ability to lift 35 lbs. Stairs required. Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct testing using normal colorimetric methods.
