Systems Technician

Washington Gas is currently hiring for a Systems Technician to join our team. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the company's Radio Frequency (RF) communications systemsincluding land mobile radio, microwave, broadband, telemetry, CAD, and other wireless networks. You'll install and repair a wide range of wireless equipment, diagnose issues, and ensure everything is operating safely and efficiently. You may also direct the work of junior technicians and perform other electronic-related tasks as needed. This is a hands-on, high-impact role that helps keep our communication systems reliable and our operations running smoothly. Install, diagnose issues and maintain a full range of wireless communications networks and equipment including, but not limited to, trunked radio system, MAS/Spread Spectrum, Digital Microwave, Digital Multiplex, and fixed and mobile data voice/data systems. Install, troubleshoot and repair fiber throughout the campuses and remote sites as required for the various networks. Installation shall include indoor, outdoor and underground applications. Remove and replace servers to support the various wireless networks. Work with outside wire crews and vendors in the installation of wiring and circuitry to the public network. Understand and assist with LAN and WAN wiring issues and utilize testing equipment and network analysis tools to resolve connectivity issues. Maintain wiring fields in a clean and orderly manner and assist in minor communication facilities upgrades and renovations. Evaluate signal coverage requirements and install coverage units and access points in appropriate locations. Coordinate customer contact, access to customer premises, and customer test acceptance on small and medium jobs. Ensure that documentation is effectively completed and submitted as required. Conduct outdoor 2-way radio and wireless signal strength, path, and facility surveys using signal test equipment and software. In addition to the activities described above: May be assigned to related business support and administrative activities (ex. backend meter processing, backend corrosion processing, backend leak/damager prevention processing, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, cross functional training activities, etc.) What You Have: High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D. One year as an electronic technician or two years of relevant technical training and working knowledge of Trunked Radio, microwave and multiplex communications systems. Good working knowledge of computer-based programming/diagnostic tools such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, Ethernet, fiber and voice modulation equipment. Good communication skills (oral and written) and ability to use common PC software programs. Must possess a clear understanding of various communication protocols including but not limited to TCP/IP, UDP, analog and digital principles. On Call as required on a rotational basis. Must successfully complete all assigned training modules qualifying exams and field clearance by a supervisor. *Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver License. FCC General Radio Telephone License and/or PCIA certification and/or Certification from a recognized electronics training program.
