Career Development Liaison/Community Navigator - 12-Month Position

QUALIFICATIONS:

This is a responsible position involving informal counseling and interacting with students who are seeking to obtain a career or college opportunities after high school. An incumbent will carry out assignments as a liaison between participants, families, and employers. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an administrative employee of higher rank, with considerable leeway for independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Does related work as required. Due to the nature of the duties required hours may flex or vary as a result of the tasks and duties necessary.

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:

Successful completions of sixty (60) semester credit hours in Education, Human Services, or Business Administration from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university. OR

Two (2) years of experience involving direct client contact in the delivery of services in a human

services agency or program.

JOB DUTIES:

HIGH SCHOOL: Establishes trusting relationships and serves as point of contact for referred families

Conducts relationship-building home visits

Works with leadership and school staff to maintain a school culture where families are welcomed and made to feel they belong on campus Meets with students and employers to educate them on career information and vocational assistance Works closely with students, colleges, high school personnel and community to increase student's success rates Works with students individually and in small groups and assists with identifying and researching careers, occupations and related educational requirements Assists students and employers with routine and general questions regarding programs and services Assists students with completion of necessary forms Helps students to develop soft skills, job-finding skills and refer to jobs Documents and maintains files on student involvement and attendance in activities related to Career Development and Occupational Studies Credential requirements Meets with supervisor to exchange observation concerning student and family interactions to maintain effective client relations;

Participation in monthly PLC meetings Analyzing data from surveys

Active member of their building's Family & Community Engagement Team Confers with parents, district staff and community partners to exchange observations concerning students' interactions Works with parents, district staff and community partners to support the needs of students Compiles and presents outreach and educational materials in the form of pamphlets, videos, reports, and weekly bulletins for distribution;

Maintains a family resource area Contributes to school newsletter and collaborates with district media specialist

Assists with job fairs or college fairs within and outside of the schools Organizes visits to colleges, trade schools, job shadowing, meetings and other informational trainings for students Researches resources to provide translation services on behalf of staff, students and families when requested Attends meetings, addresses public groups and participates in other public relations activities as required Attends school team meetings and professional development opportunities to stay current on evidence-based best practices

Present on trust building for hard to reach families to grade-levels Stay up-to-date about the work of family leadership groups (PTA/PTO)

Performs miscellaneous work as required by the duties assigned within the work activities. MIDDLE SCHOOL/ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:

Establishes trusting relationships and serves as point of contact for referred families

Conducts relationship-building home visits

Works with leadership and school staff to maintain a school culture where families are welcomed and made to feel they belong on campus Works closely with school personnel, family, and community to increase referred student's success rates

Daily average attendance Behavioral and social/emotional health

Works with students referred by school leaders individually and in small groups to develop skills to increase academic achievement Supports students and families on caseload with routine and general questions regarding community agencies and services;

Referrals to appropriate agencies or wraparound supports Assist families in completing necessary paperwork and forms

Helps students to develop social skills that will set them up for success at the middle school/high school level Meets with supervisor to exchange observations concerning student and family interactions to maintain effective relationships

Participation in monthly PLC meetings Analyzing data from surveys

Active member of their building's Family & Community Engagement Team Confers with parents, district staff and community partners to exchange observations concerning students' interactions Works with parents, district staff and community partners to support the needs of students Compiles and presents outreach and educational materials in the form of pamphlets, videos, reports, and weekly bulletins for distribution;
