Social Worker:
Minimum Qualification:
Valid and current NYS Licensed Master Social Worker Certification; and A minimum of three years' experience working with families and/or children, preferred Purpose of Position:
Contribute to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the social and emotional development of children anthe influences of family, community and cultural differences on student success; Provide services to students who are at-risk for school failure and/or demonstrating social, emotional, and behavior problems within the school setting; and Be a link connecting students to the home, school, and community. Expectation/Responsibilities:
Consults with students, parents, teachers, administrators and members of the community to define and implement developmentally appropriate learning strategies, behavioral interventions, and social and emotional supports; Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of FERPA and other state regulations governing the ethical provisions of counseling services; Collaborate with teachers, behaviorists, administrators, parents/guardians, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments; Perform various social work intakes for interviewing, completing appropriate social history and intake forms and assessing other aspects of the students' circumstances and background' Provide social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction to students who are experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their learning; Determine the specific path of therapy-based counseling and teaching to support students and families' Prepare and maintain a broad variety of documentation and records, including writing case reports, and all related details or recommendations, therapy provided, etc.; Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive school social work services; Serve as a liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student's needs; refer parents and students to agencies when appropriate; Stay current and relevant with changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies, and programs as it relates to the role of school social worker. To empower students, families and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources; Conduct home visits as necessary and encourages parental participation in the educational process; Serves as a liaison with Child Protective Services, the Department of Social Services, BOCES, and other appropriate agencies providing support to children and families. Performs other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s) or the Superintendent of Schools.
