Job Purpose:
To assess social/emotional development of students and design appropriate instructional plans in order to enable students to maximize learning potential.
Qualifications-Required: Master's Degree form an accredited college or university NJ School Social Worker Certification Valid NJ driver's license Excellent integrity and demonstrates good moral character and initiative Excellent organizational skills Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, social/emotional needs, assessment and diagnosis Demonstrates an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding Child Study Teams and special education assessment and program requirements Excellent interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and community Able to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary Demonstrates the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, and IEP development Ability to pass the required Criminal History Review and Pre-Employment Physical Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Process
Qualifications-Desired: Experience working in a primary/elementary setting Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker Able to communicate effectively in Spanish and/or other languages besides English, orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary
Duties/Responsibilities: Provides comprehensive social worker services as a member of the Child Study Team with the assessment of, educational planning for, monitoring of, and re-evaluation of students in need of special services, in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations Assesses social/emotional/medical background of each student referred to the CST for evaluation and interprets the findings in written reports and conferences Prepares with other Child Study Team members, teachers, and parents, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each identified student Monitors and evaluates the educational program of students with special learning needs through observations, review of school records, staff conferences, and written observation reports to determine whether the present educational program is the one best suited for the students' development Ensures the effective implementation of students' instructional programs and accommodations. Completes in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law or by supervisor Protects confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and uses discretion in sharing such information Provides consultation to administration and instructional staff concerning student needs Case manages student programs, conferring with teachers, parents, and students as needed throughout the school year Work with students in individual, small group, and classroom settings To provide opportunities for special education students to improve interpersonal relationships and learn problem solving skills Conduct home visits as a method to access the family Train colleagues on the district's current crisis prevention program Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee
Working Conditions: School Building Classroom Prorated Salary range of $61,959 (MA, Step 1) - $102,512 (DOC, Step 13) as per EHTEA Contract Medical and Dental Benefits Pension membership in TPAF
Physical Requirements: Sit, stand, and walk for required periods of time Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and/or controls Able to perform physical restraint of students as needed
