This is a non-merit system, employment-at-will, long-term contract position.
The
Sr. Data Network Engineer
is responsible for the
architecture, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of the network communications
at WSSC Water. The Sr. Data Network Engineer will take on responsibilities in areas of administration, engineering, architecture, monitoring and troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, load balancers and DNS and DHCP appliances and work collaboratively with IT team members on technology project implementations. This Sr. Data Network Engineer will also develop and maintain documentation, including addressing plans, network topology diagrams, rack elevation, data flows and variables.
Essential Functions Designs, deploys, maintains, optimizes and troubleshoots enterprise class networks comprising of routers, switches, firewalls, and load-balancers Plans and executes network changes, network hardware and software upgrades, refreshes and replacements Minimize network latency and maximize data throughput through design analysis and network performance monitoring Ability to demonstrate and design within the scope of security requirements Provides technical and problem resolution support related to network hardware and software Supports the existing infrastructure and assists in designing and deploying data network solutions in support of both business and technical initiatives Utilizes network monitoring and management tools to evaluate the status of the environment daily, performs capacity planning, network analysis and optimization Develops and maintains documentation, including addressing plans, network topology diagrams, rack elevation, data flows and other technical documentation in a comprehensive and timely manner Works with IT security and Enterprise Architects to architect and implement required network security infrastructure Evaluates, selects and makes recommendations for data networking equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and other hardware and software solutions, ensuring that these products support WSSC Water enterprise network initiatives Delivers periodic reports concerning network metrics including, but not limited to, network uptime statistics, bandwidth consumption, network link utilization, and outages for both network links and network equipment Provides project management for network upgrades and new installations Works with ISPs and circuit providers to bring up circuits and to resolve data communications issues as they arise Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business Other Functions
Assists in the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program Provides support for cable plant management for data circuits in areas of testing, installations, and disconnections Stays abreast of the latest trends in data equipment, technologies, and trends and make recommendations regarding user, design, and implementation based on analysis Performs other related duties as assigned Work Environment And Physical Demands

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Advanced knowledge of network infrastructure components, including Citrix & Netmotion VPN, Cisco networking products, and various standard routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, etc.) Advanced technical knowledge of networking and security, such as routing, DNS/DHCP, Cloudflare, Checkpoint Cisco firewall configurations Strong knowledge of network analysis, including understanding of the OSI model, packet decodes, common protocols, familiarity with analysis utilities, such as those for network performance monitoring and network protocol analyzers systems Basic knowledge of cable plant design & implementation Knowledge of Citrix application load balancing, QoS, VoIP solutions Advanced knowledge of Cloud Networking Advanced knowledge of high-availability technologies and techniques Knowledge of network and system monitoring technologies (SMNP, SolarWinds, etc.) Knowledge of transmission mediums such as cloud-based Wi-Fi systems (Meraki), Transparent LAN Services (TLS), Private IP (PIP), fiber optics and microwave wireless communications Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities Excellent skills in documentation of systems and procedures Effective verbal and written communication skills Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related field) Active CCNP Certification 8+ years direct hands on experience configuring, deploying, maintaining, and testing Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS based routers and switches and Cisco ISE Experience in enterprise network operations, project applications, and project management Hands-on experience with network routing protocols like EIGRP, BGP & OSPF; and switching technologies like Spanning Tree, EtherChannel, Port Security, and 802.1X, etc. Experience in system monitoring technologies i.e. SNMP (i.e. SolarWinds, etc.) to proactively monitor infrastructure environments Experience with DNS Server (Infoblox ) Experience with application Citrix load-balancing and Citrix Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) OR

Hands-on familiarity with following CheckPoint /Cisco Firewall, InfoBlox DNS/DHCP appliances and SolarWinds Orion Experience with Software Defined Networking solutions (i.e. VMware NSX), NAC solutions (i.e. Cisco ISE) Experience with VPN
