Job Summary/Basic Function

The Assistant Provost for Student Academic Enrichment serves as a member of the Office of the Provost and is directly responsible to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Assistant Provost directs operations primarily focused on student academic support, career readiness, and enrichment programs. The unit plays a central role in the academic mission of Shepherd University. The Assistant Provost is charged with developing, implementing, and facilitating academic support services and enrichment programs for students from recruitment and onboarding through retention, persistence, and graduation. The Assistant Provost provides collaborative leadership, vision, and strategic direction for all areas under this unit, which includes TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) and Upward Bound (UB), Academic Support and Transfer Pathways, Academic Advising, Career Services, and Experiential Education. The Assistant Provost plays a key role in establishing an inclusive and engaging environment within the unit and supports campus-wide collaboration for the betterment of all students.

Minimum Qualifications Master's degree Five years of progressively higher education administrative experience. Five years of advising, coaching, or comparable experience. Proven track record of mentoring and providing professional development support to faculty and staff. Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree Demonstrated success in recruiting, retaining, and evaluating staff Success in developing and managing a fiscally sound budget Specialized Skills, Experience, or Credentials

Demonstrated commitment to interdivisional collaboration. Foundational understanding of KPIs and strategic planning. Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including faculty and enrollment management

Description of Job Duties

Supervision & Leadership • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all direct reports. • Provide vision and leadership in the development of programs, strategies, and activities that encourage innovation in student success and retention. • Provide vision and leadership for the university's experiential education initiatives, ensuring integration into the academic curriculum and co-curricular programs. • Guide directors in professional development to ensure units remain aligned with best practices.

Strategic & Financial Planning • Lead strategic planning and financial resource planning by establishing goals, priorities, and programmatic objectives aligned with the University's academic mission and Strategic Plan. • Oversee budget activities for all reporting units, ensuring appropriate use of funds and adherence to institutional and state policies.

Student Access, Success & Retention • Advance early college access and onboarding initiatives (e.g., FYEX programming, Accuplacer testing, orientation advising). • Drive retention initiatives and implement best practices in advising, coaching, and career development. • Provide oversight of First Year (FYEX), Senior Year (SREX), and Career Readiness (CARR) programs, including scheduling, assessment, redevelopment, and sunsetting. • Oversee summer and winter registration/advising models and ensure faculty/staff engagement in onboarding new students. • Collaborate with deans, department chairs, faculty, and student affairs professionals to embed experiential learning across disciplines.

Program Evaluation, Assessment, & Grants • Conduct regular assessments of student services, advising models, and retention initiatives to inform continuous improvement • Utilize data to evaluate student outcomes,

identify

barriers, and recommend policy and program adjustments. • Promote evidence-based best practices in service delivery and workflow across student access and retention initiatives. • Coordinate review and revision of all Student Academic Enrichment policies. • Manage, in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Research, the administration and analysis of National Survey on Student Engagement (NSSE) data, ensuring results are shared and applied across relevant units. • Support directors in pursuing external funding through grant applications, including TRIO-SSS and UB renewals. • Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate the impact of experiential education on student learning, retention, and career outcomes. • Analyze program participation and outcome data to inform strategic decision-making and continuous program improvement. Prepare reports for institutional leadership, accrediting bodies, and external stakeholders.

Collaboration & Partnerships • Work with Deans, Department Chairs, and Enrollment Management to integrate Student Access and Retention initiatives with academic programs and recruitment strategies. • Provide oversight of 2+2 program partnerships with regional community colleges and lead efforts to develop new agreements. • Serve as liaison to Deans regarding professional Academic Advisors, to the Registrar regarding DegreeWorks, and to Enrollment Management on transfer and recruitment initiatives. • Represent Student Access and Retention on university-level committees related to curriculum, enrollment management, student success, and business processes. • Oversee development, coordination, and administration of experiential education programs. Ensure programs meet institutional learning outcomes and accreditation or licensure requirements where applicable.

Faculty Training & Academic Support • Coordinate faculty advisor training and recertification in collaboration with Academic Advising and Teaching & Learning. • Review class scheduling of core course offerings with deans, Registrar, and AVP of Enrollment, providing recommendations for efficiencies. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost/VPAA.
