Job Description:
The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (LIEOC) at Farmingdale State College offers a broad array of programs including English to Speakers of Other Languages, High School Equivalency Preparation, College Preparation, Allied Health Certification Programs, and workforce development courses in the fields of business and technology. We are seeking a Mental Health Counselor to support struggling students and promote academic achievement and socioemotional well-being.
Duties and responsibilities include: Interacting with students in a therapeutic manner to address mental health concerns and needs. Offering case management services to effectively assess the unique needs of traditionally underserved and vulnerable populations and developing case-specific action plans where appropriate. Performing crisis intervention when necessary. Developing a comprehensive resource guide outlining community resources specifically serving the LIEOC population and facilitating student access to these resources. Acting as a student advocate when needed. Planning, facilitating, and organizing trainings, workshops, and programs on mental health awareness and preventative care specifically targeted to the needs of underserved, diverse student groups and communities. This position requires the availability to work evenings as needed to meet operational requirements.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. At least three (3) years of experience working in a college-related setting supporting student development and success. Excellent oral and written communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual in Spanish. Experience working in a diverse setting. Ability to network and create partnerships with community and social service agencies.

This is a full-time UUP position.
