Job Summary
The
Building Engineer
will monitor, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and control systems across a
24/7 R&D facility . This role ensures all equipment, including boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems, operates safely and efficiently. The position requires technical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to support preventative maintenance and emergency repairs as part of a team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Perform maintenance and repairs on
mechanical, plumbing, structural, electrical, and control systems . Monitor building systems, including
three 600 HP boilers and large chillers . Execute
preventive maintenance (PM)
tasks to maintain operational efficiency. Comply with all
safety regulations, codes, and company directives . Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation of inspections and repairs. Ensure systems are operating efficiently through
energy management practices . Respond to and perform
emergency repairs
as needed. Manage safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Inspect HVAC, fire alarms, and plumbing systems to ensure design and performance standards. Apply advanced knowledge of technical principles to solve complex building issues. Mentor and coach junior technicians, promoting teamwork and compliance with

Minimum
3 years of experience
in large steam plant or building maintenance operations. Prior experience maintaining
boilers, chillers, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems . High school diploma or GED required (trade school diploma preferred). Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer License
highly preferred (2nd or 3rd Grade acceptable). Experience working in
R&D or industrial environments
preferred. Required Skills
