Our client, a leader in commercial real estate, is seeking a skilled and dependable
Building Engineer
to support facility operations at a R&D site in
Rockville, MD . This is a
full-time, on-site position , primarily working
Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm
but will need to work other shifts as needed. The site is open 7 days/week, 24 hours/day. This position starts as a
7-month contract opportunity . The Building Engineer will be part of a collaborative team of engineers responsible for maintaining and monitoring complex building systems, including high-capacity boilers, chillers, and supporting mechanical equipment. This role offers the opportunity to work in a technically advanced environment, ensuring reliable and efficient operation of key systems that support research and development activities. It is ideal for an experienced stationary engineer or HVAC professional who thrives in a hands-on role requiring strong technical, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, and maintain critical building systems, including: • Three (3) 600-horsepower boilers • Three (3) large chillers • Associated mechanical and control equipment Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and routine inspections. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Monitor and adjust Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure optimal performance. Record equipment data, maintain accurate logs, and report abnormalities promptly. Collaborate with other engineers to support overall facility reliability. Adhere to all site safety standards and operational procedures. Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications: • Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer License - Highly Preferred • Maryland 2nd or 3rd Grade License - Accepted in lieu of 1st Grade Experience: • Minimum 3 years of experience in a large steam plant or mechanical plant environment • Proven experience operating and maintaining large boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems Education: • High school diploma or GED required Technical Skills: • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) Nice to Have
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities Flexibility and teamwork orientation
