Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the district's transportation operations. Ensure safe and efficient operation of the transportation department. Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree, preferred
Bus Driver Training Instructor Certificate
Experience:
Demonstrate successful experience in transportation, including experience in a supervisory capacity Five years of experience as a bus driver; negative OTETA test Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate Major Responsibilities and Duties: Prepare and update bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district Develop plans to meet future transportation needs Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs Coordinate transportation patterns and concerns with appropriate state and federal agencies to ensure efficient district transportation Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed Operate buses and deliver buses to drivers when breakdowns occur Notify bus drivers, schools, and the public of any changes in bus routes and schedules Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rule, and the local Board of Trustees Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required Implement the district's student discipline policies and communicate to students expected behavior when using district transportation Enforce safety standards that conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventative safety Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary options for the transportation department Comply with applicable personnel policies Oversee the processing of the transportation payroll data Direct the repair of all transportation vehicles and oversee the plans for preventive maintenance Ensure that vehicle repair requests are processed and prioritized Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution Administer the transportation budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn out vehicles and equipment. Recommend purchase of vehicles as necessary Review student behavior reports and conduct conferences with parents, students, and drivers on disciplinary issues when necessary Enforce student discipline and suspension of riding privileges for any student who violates rules and regulations Assign bus drivers to routes and find substitutes as needed Recruit, select, train, and supervise transportation department personnel; make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal Confers with staff members regarding their professional growth and leadership skills; works jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals Evaluate employee job performance to ensure effectiveness Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance Advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or road hazards Help with gathering information in investigations of school bus accidents and student safety violations Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned Annually establishes and meets performance goals Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance Other duties as assigned
