Inventory Controller Summary:
The Inventory Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of
inventory control, including tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and valuation of inventory
across the organization. This role ensures that inventory records are accurate and
aligns inventory processes with financial reporting and operational needs. The Inventory
Controller will also assist in approving inventory-related invoices and ensure alignment
with cost controls and budgetary expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management & Control:
• Maintain accurate inventory records across the plant through regular cycle
counts, reconciliations, and inventory adjustments.
• Monitor inventory transactions (receipts, usage, transfers, and write-offs) and
ensure proper documentation and approval.
• Process and close work orders, ensuring accuracy of component usage and
production yields.
• Investigate inventory variances and collaborate with production, warehousing,
and finance to resolve discrepancies.
• Implement and monitor inventory control procedures, ensuring compliance with
company policy and audit requirements.
Reporting & Analysis:
• Prepare monthly inventory roll forward reports, usage summaries, and inventory
valuation reports.
• Forecast inventory requirements based on production schedules and sales
trends.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes related to inventory, including
reconciliation to the general ledger.
• Assist the Operations Controller in analyzing cost of goods sold (COGS),
shrinkage, and stock adjustments.
Invoice Review & Approval:
• Review and verify vendor invoices for accuracy against POs, receipts, and
production records.
• Approve invoices up to a defined threshold and escalate exceptions as required.
• Work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of invoices.
System & Process Improvement:
• Assist in the development and enhancement of inventory tracking systems (e.g.,
ERP or WMS).
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve inventory visibility and
operational efficiency.
• Train and support plant staff on inventory processes and proper documentation
practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field (or
equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing
or food production environment.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP, Vicinity) is a must.
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, roll forward models).
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
• Knowledge of cost accounting and inventory valuation methods (FIFO, weighted
average, etc.).
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
Skills:
• Experience working with production work orders and bill of materials (BOMs).
• Familiarity with cycle count procedures and physical inventory audits.
• Understanding of internal controls related to inventory and procurement.
