Department: Procurement-BTMC

Shift: Day (4am - 12:30pm; 40 hours per week). Rotates every other weekend and holiday.

Job Category: Phlebotomy

Pay: New Grads: $19 per hour. Experienced (3-11+ years): $21.07 - 23.36 per hour.

Position Summary

This position may be located within a hospital facility, patient service center, in‑office phlebotomy, or mobile diagnostic services. The holder is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens, accurate entry into the company’s computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution to the appropriate area. The position also performs specified analytical testing as assigned and follows all guidelines of the Code of Conduct and regulatory requirements.

Core Functions

  • Collect specimens and perform specimen processing or referral laboratory processing, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and integrity.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, physician data, requested tests, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other pertinent data; verify accuracy of entered information and specimens received; aliquot and label specimens according to established procedures; deliver specimens to the technical area and, when required, perform initial processing and preparation.
  • Focus on quality by ensuring work performed is accurate and complete, produce legible documentation, follow departmental methods, maintain familiarity with procedures, and initiate computer-generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring.
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste, and support initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, working with co‑workers, attending meetings, and remaining current with internal/external communications.
  • Understand and acknowledge the importance of Patient Rights and privacy (HIPAA).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or experience.
  • May require DHS fingerprinting certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Valid state driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under company auto insurance policy.
  • Float positions require travel, flexible hours, and willingness to work multiple locations, weekends, holidays, and overtime; may require on‑call duties.
  • Progression through career ladder II‑IV subject to completion of ladder requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
