Position: Process/Chemical Engineer – Hazardous Waste

Location: Cardiff with UK and overseas travel

This involves being away from home for a period of 4-6 weeks depending on the project and for 4-6 months per year.

Salary: 32-35k (neg DOE), 10% performance bonus, and excellent benefits package including healthcare, pension and share scheme

Time off in lieu and travel allowance (£34 per day received for working outside the UK)

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

As a global organisation, their work focuses on delivering simple but innovative solutions to preserving natural resources, reducing pollution and protecting our environment.

This division undertakes contracts relating to the safeguarding, stowage, export and proper disposal of obsolete pesticides and other hazardous waste across the globe due to there being no facilities in-country able to deal with these types of hazardous wastes in an environmentally safe manner. They work with local contractors to execute the services and deliverables in full compliance with national law, international laws and relevant conventions.

Remaining stocks are verified.

All necessary operational and safety equipment is provided as well as UN approved packaging materials and labels required for the repacking of waste stocks.

Undertake and supervise repacking as necessary.

Stow the repacked waste securely into Shipping Container Units (SCUs) for maritime transport prior to disposal.

Prepare and complete export documentation for all waste streams.

Services:

It provides the following services, individually or as a whole:

  1. Packaging – delivering worldwide road and marine transport regulation compliant packaging material.
  2. Conditioning – repack the hazardous substances with highly qualified chemist supervisors and trained operators.
  3. Transport – organise the shipping of hazardous wastes to the suitable disposal facilities.
  4. Regulation Enforcement – coordinate the management of the administrative work to comply with the different regulations (transfrontier shipment papers, International transport of waste, customs).

The Role:

Responsible for field services operations from start to finish on all projects.

Hands on supervision of hazardous waste operations at customer sites overseas and in the UK.

Inspection, packaging, handling and transport of hazardous waste.

Assist in site surveys, job estimations, quotations, sourcing of equipment and visits.

Ensure maintenance of equipment, plant and systems.

Experience:

Degree level or equivalent in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or Chemical Engineering discipline.

Experience in the waste management sector.

Chemist or Chemical Engineer.

Project skills and APM (association for project management preferred but not essential as training will be provided).

Health and safety expertise.

Hazardous waste management qualifications (desirable).

Excellent communication and language skills (French or Spanish desirable).

Team player and culturally aware.
