Exempt Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Communications Managr, the Digital Communications Specialist creates and manages an organization's digital content to support its brand and communication goals. Key responsibilities include managing social media, writing and editing website content, creating photos and videos, and analyzing digital metrics to improve engagement. The role requires strong writing, editing, and collaboration skills to communicate with diverse audiences, such as students, parents, teachers, and the community. Performs other duties as assigned.
Core responsibilities
Content creation:
Write, edit, and produce content for various digital platforms, including social media, the districts website, and email newsletters the districts YouTube channel. Visual media:
Create and edit digital assets like photos and videos for communication materials. Brand consistency:
Ensure all digital and print materials are consistent with the organization's brand identity. Production:
Experience with digital photography and video production. Shoot and record various video products, including educational content, event coverage, and promotional materials. Edit raw footage using software, incorporating graphics, closed captioning, and music. Analytics and reporting:
Track and analyze digital performance metrics, and use the data to optimize campaigns and inform future strategies. Live streaming:
Manage technical aspects for live streaming events, such as graduations, board meetings, and workshops. Required skills and qualifications
Technical proficiency:
Experience with professional video and audio equipment, as well as video editing and production software (e.g. DaVinci Resolve, Premier Pro, Final Cut, Hitfilm, Movavi). Proficiency with digital content creation tools is essential, such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop). Experience with content management systems like WordPress is also highly valued. Creativity:
Ability to develop story concepts, write scripts, and create engaging content from initial idea to final product. Ability to transform complex information into compelling narratives for different audiences. Collaboration and interpersonal skills:
Work closely with administrators, teachers, and other departments to align digital communication with organizational objectives. Work with other departments and stakeholders to understand their video needs and develop content that meets district goals. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Work environment
The role can involve working on-campus, at events, and sometimes from remote locations. Responsibilities may require flexible scheduling to accommodate events or tight deadlines.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred. Proficiency with social media platforms and digital content creation tools.
Experience in a K-12 environment engaging with faculty and students.(Preferred)
Experience with Drones (Certification a plus).(Preferred) Applicants must present a digital portfolio to be considered. Submit portfolio to Communications@wmsd.net.
