Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Sterile Processing Supervisor supervises of the care, cleaning, handling, and reprocessing of instruments and equipment. Monitors and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. This role also performs Instrument Technician responsibilities as needed.
As an instrument technician, this role is responsible for care, cleaning, handling and reprocessing of instruments and equipment. Decontaminates instruments and equipment to hospital and regulatory guidelines. Assembles and wraps trays for sterilization following procedures and loads and operates sterilizers. Uses knowledge of instrumentation blood and body fluid precautions, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization to performs quality assurance monitoring. Documents according to policy and procedures. This role is also responsible for providing coordination and assembly of surgery case carts. Accurately completes inventory lists for trays and surgeon preference cards, signs, and dates. Reviews instrument and inventory supplies, restocks, proactively identifies supply/instrumentation needs, gathering of supplies needed for a specific case, and assists with O.R. sterilization processes. Knowledge of supplies, instrumentation, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization. Performs other duties as assigned.
As a Supervisor, this role provides direction to Sterile Processing staff. Participates in training new employees and offers guidance and assistance to less experienced staff. Coaches and councils staff and conducts performance evaluations. Communicates updates and information with staff. Acts as a liaison to surgical staff to facilitate maximum efficiency of patient care. Reports "near misses", potential and actual errors to manager. Maintains staffing schedule for assigned personnel ensuring efficient coverage of the department. Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Two years minimum experience in Sterile Processing Knowledge of surgical terminology, instrumentation, and Case Cart pulling Certifications Required:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CSPDT)
Certifications Preferred:
IAHCSMM CHL Certification
