Main Purpose of Role The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that promote compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements while fostering a strong safety culture. This role partners with plant leadership and employees to reduce risk, improve safety performance, and ensure environmental compliance. This individual is also responsible for supporting and implementing the TEM Environmental Health and Safety strategy for their respective plants.

Role Model Behaviour:

Consistently model safety within the plant, champion safety as a core value, foster a safety‑conscious culture, and encourage employee involvement and engagement in safety initiatives.

Systems Management:

Responsible for the creation, implementation, and ongoing management of the ISO45001 and ISO14001 management systems.

Projects:

Define, manage and sponsor EH&S improvement projects to improve workplace safety standards and reduce risks to employees.

Fibre Monitoring:

Ensure the C.A.R.E and internal occupational dust and fibre monitoring programs are completed in line with the defined schedule and that issues are rectified quickly.

Safety Program Development:

Develop, implement, and maintain EH&S programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulations.

Communication and Cadence:

Collaborate with plant teams to ensure that changes are effectively communicated and integrated into daily operations.

Risk Assessments & Safety Audits:

Conduct thorough risk assessments and safety audits across the plant, implementing corrective actions promptly.

Training:

Oversee the scheduling, record‑keeping, development, and delivery of safety training programs for employees and line managers.

Incident Investigation and Reporting:

Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Emergency Response & Preparedness:

Develop and lead emergency preparedness plans for multiple scenarios, coordinate safety drills, and ensure procedures are up to date and well‑communicated.

Behavioural Safety:

Foster a safety‑first culture through employee engagement, safety awareness campaigns, and regular training.

Zero Tolerance:

Proactively and robustly challenge unsafe behaviours on site, promote accountability and safety excellence with consistent enforcement.

Legal Compliance:

Ensure full legal and regulatory compliance across all EH&S domains, implementing policies, monitoring adherence, and acting on gaps or non‑conformities.

Employee Engagement:

Set up an on‑site health and safety committee to review safety performance and collaborate on initiatives.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Oversee selection, maintenance, and distribution of PPE and safety equipment.

Environmental Compliance:

Ensure compliance with environmental laws, local and national regulations such as ISO14001 and EPA; manage permits, reporting, waste management, and energy use.

Sustainability Initiatives:

Champion initiatives to reduce the plant’s carbon footprint, waste, water consumption, and energy usage, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation.

Environmental Audits:

Manage internal and external environmental audits, ensuring readiness and successful completion of compliance assessments.

Occupational Health:

Oversee management of employee occupational health inspections, ensuring health surveillance inspections are completed, reports handled confidentially, and recommended actions are implemented.

Reporting and Key Performance Indicators:

Populate required reports accurately, track performance trends, and implement needed improvements.

Regulatory Updates:

Stay current with evolving EH&S regulations, standards, and best practices.

Coaching And Development

Influences Others:

Becomes trusted across the organization, influencing key stakeholders by combining data, emotional intelligence, and a deep understanding of others’ motivations.

Performance Management:

Assist with setting EH&S performance objectives for the Site Leadership Team and line managers.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with manufacturing engineering, maintenance, supply chain, and performance improvement to embed EH&S standards and align operational goals with compliance objectives.

Inspirational Leadership:

Inspire a culture of ownership, encourage others to take responsibility, and consistently deliver reliable results that enable trust from team members.

Essential Qualifications And Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

10+ years of progressive management/leadership experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management, preferably in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, or biotech industries.

Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations, with proven ability to ensure compliance across multiple sites.

Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and implementing sustainable corrective and preventive actions.

High proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs for employees at all levels.

Experience leading regulatory audits and inspections (OSHA, EPA, ISO, or other relevant standards).

Certified Lead Auditor for ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.

Experience implementing and managing ISO14001 and ISO45001 management systems.

Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.

Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and recommend improvements to reduce risk and enhance safety culture.
