Manpower Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer with strong experience in industrial robotic automation, specifically within robotic welding system design and build. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience leading robotics automation projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑performance, reliable robotic systems for industrial applications.

Duration: Long‑term contract role.

Location: Year 1: Shelby Township, MI

Year 2: Northern Ohio, between Toledo and Cleveland

Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical design, integration, and build of custom industrial robotic automation systems, with a focus on robotic welding applications.

Manage projects through all phases — concept design, detailed engineering, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning.

Develop and review 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and BOMs for robotic cells, tooling, and fixtures.

Work with robotic systems (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, etc.) and coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical, control, and programming teams.

Collaborate with suppliers and vendors for mechanical components, welding fixtures, and automation hardware.

Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and tolerance stack‑up analyses to validate system performance.

Provide on‑site support during equipment installation, debug, and customer acceptance testing (FAT / SAT).

Maintain project timelines, budgets, and quality standards throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications Education:

Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.

Experience:

5+ years of experience in mechanical design and project engineering for industrial automation or robotic systems.

Proven experience with industrial robotic systems, welding robot experience highly preferred.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Familiarity with robotic integration, end‑of‑arm tooling, conveyance systems, and fixture design.

Prefer experience with automotive plants or heavy industry environments.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Self‑motivated with problem‑solving and analytical capabilities.

Able to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
