Job Description You will be a System Safety Engineer for the Fighter System Safety Team. Our team is a specialty engineering organization that is tasked with executing a System Safety program to identify and control safety hazards to an acceptable risk. System Safety programs ensure safe operations across the entire enterprise (operations, maintenance, heavy maintenance, support equipment, etc.) are maintained using MIL‑STD‑882 as guidance.

As the System Safety Engineer you will be responsible for supporting System Safety Engineering efforts for F‑35 aircraft and for supporting System Safety Program Plan development and execution. Your responsibilities will include:

Performing analyses for hazard identification, evaluation and control using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques typically used in the design of aircraft weapon systems and sustainment activities.

Leading System Safety Analyses including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), and others.

Performing qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses to conduct risk assessments and trade studies needed to evaluate and optimize design choices and recommend appropriate controls to mitigate safety hazards.

Coordinating system safety activities with design teams, suppliers, internal management and external customers.

Having an understanding of adjacent disciplines for efficient collaboration and trade‑offs supporting all program objectives.

This is considered an experienced early career position within the system safety discipline.

Security & Eligibility You will need to be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD SECRET clearance. You must successfully pass a drug and background check in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Desired Skills

Experience with Aircraft Structural Design / Evaluation

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Military or civilian flight experience

MIL‑STD‑882, MIL‑HDBK‑516, ARP‑4761, and/or ARP‑4754 knowledge

FAA and military regulations and processes knowledge

Writing technical reports on complex subject matter experience

Military or government programs experience

Statistical analysis methods knowledge

Aircraft system safety engineering experience

System safety or airworthiness training or experience

Model‑based system engineering (MBSE) training or experience

Work Arrangement Onsite Full‑time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Shift: First. Work Schedule: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week. Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees.

Security Clearance Required Secret clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration.

For states not referenced above, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.

Premium Pay Statement: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $84,300 - $146,165. For states not referenced above, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
