The

Payroll Specialist

will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of multi‑state payroll for both exempt and non‑exempt employees across the organization. This position requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of payroll compliance, and the ability to work cross‑functionally with HR, Finance, and field leadership teams to maintain seamless payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities

Process bi‑weekly payroll for multi‑state employees in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Audit and verify payroll data for accuracy, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, bonuses, and commissions.

Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, garnishments, and tax requirements.

Partner with HR and Accounting to reconcile payroll reports, general ledger accounts, and benefit deductions.

Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll system functionality and assist with system upgrades, testing, and process improvements.

Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, tax withholding, and other payroll matters with professionalism and confidentiality.

Prepare and distribute payroll‑related reports to management and external auditors as needed.

Ensure timely filing of multi‑state payroll taxes and support year‑end W‑2 preparation and reconciliation.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in payroll operations.

Qualifications

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years managing

multi‑state payroll

in a corporate environment.

Systems:

Proficiency in UKG (or similar payroll software) and Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge:

Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax compliance, and wage and hour regulations across multiple states.

Skills:

Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

Certifications:

CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC preferred.
