Summary
Mortenson is currently seeking a
Field Engineer
who can interact with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Field Engineer will support and complete the full cycle of field coordination issues with team members, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Responsibilities Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus, and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:
Provide Pre-Construction Support
Manage the submittal and RFI processes for specific definable features of work (DFW), utilizing PMA and other Project Connect programs completely to closure.
Evaluate project design and engineering documents, managing their organization and distribution to necessary parties.
Conduct advanced research on living arrangements for project team members.
Perform Project-Specific Tasks in Preparation for Team Mobilization
Prepare turnover binder templates.
Assist with the Preparation of Pre-Mobilization Kickoff Meetings
Compile, contact, and arrange for short-form subcontracts with local entities at the project site.
Arrange power, trailers, housing, local subcontractors, etc.
Assist in drafting subcontracts and purchase agreements.
Review and utilize the Best Practice Database for SWIs, quality documents, prep meetings, etc.
Manage All Aspects Necessary for Construction Support
Manage the quality assurance & quality control process as delineated in the Project Quality Plan.
Manage the inventory process as materials arrive to the site: inspection, offload, receiving, and storage.
Coordinate DFW prep meetings, initial inspections, follow-up inspections, punch list final inspections.
Assist Project Manager and Project Superintendents regarding material and equipment management.
Manage mechanical, electrical, and plumbing coordination drawings, shop and as-built drawings.
Coordinate the creation of lift and formwork drawings.
Manage production logs for work put in place (self-performed or subcontracted).
Track Event Management incidents regarding Safety or Quality in DFW responsibilities.
Administer Closeout Processes
Compile turnover documentation for specific DFW and transfer to customer per the project-specific quality and TSO plan.
Assist Project Engineer and Project Manager with closing out contract documents with subcontractors and suppliers.
Support the final inspections and punch list process with the customer for specific DFW responsibilities.
Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect.
Other Duties as Assigned, Including
Participate in project safety audits and Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program.
Determine alternative work methods as needed.
Maintain a schedule of timelines and follow through until completion.
Qualifications
Previous related internship experience is a plus.
Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills.
Current driver’s license.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering, or another science or mathematics-related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and substantial technical/field experience over multiple years.

Compensation The base pay range for this role is $76,800 - $96,000. Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. If applicable, this position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
