PHARMACIST The County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agency is recruiting for the position of Pharmacist. Interviews start week of March 2, 2026. Job offers by April 30, 2026.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 – 4.97% increase to base pay (3.50% across‑board + 1.47 market adjustment)

June 2027 – 4.47% increase to base pay (3.00% across‑board + 1.47 market adjustment)

Job Overview Pharmacists perform professional pharmaceutical work including direct care services, dispensing drugs, verifying medications, consulting with physicians and nurses, and supervising pharmacy technicians. Services are provided to San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital, Edgemoor Hospital, Public Health Clinics, Behavioral Health Clinics and other county locations. Pharmacists will work at various locations.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care and medication therapy management.

Dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies accurately.

Verify drug orders and administer IV admixture where required, especially for Edgemoor Hospital.

Consult with physicians, nurses, and other health professionals.

Supervise pharmacy technicians.

Maintain current valid pharmacist license and state and national credentials.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid pharmacist license from California State Board of Pharmacy, unrestricted.

Graduation from an accredited U.S. college/university, or FPGEC certification, or certified equivalency for foreign pharmacy studies.

One year of verifiable experience as a registered pharmacist in a licensed health care facility (pharmacy serving a skilled nursing facility, retail pharmacy, or hospital).

Valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) at time of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Board certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BCPS, BCGP, BCPP, BCIDP, BCACP) or other relevant specialty.

Pharmacy post‑graduate training (Residency) in Hospital, Geriatric, Psychiatric, Infectious Disease, or Ambulatory Care. Current residents encouraged to submit completion date.

Hiring Timeline and Dates

Job offer and background process shortly after interviews.

Pre‑employment medical screening approximately 3 days after successful background investigation.

Anticipated start date based on completion of medical screening or mutually agreed date.

Condition of Employment All candidates undergo background check (including fingerprinting) and pre‑employment medical screening before starting employment. Current county employees may be excluded from this process.
