PHARMACIST INTERVIEWS WILL START on the week of March 2, 2026. Job offers for selected candidates will be made on or before April 30, 2026.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 – 4.97% increase to base pay (3.50% Across-the-Board + 1.47% Market Adjustment)

June 2027 – 4.47% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.47% Market Adjustment)

Pharmacists perform professional pharmaceutical work such as providing direct care services, supporting pharmaceutical services delivery, dispensing drugs and pharmaceutical supplies, verifying drugs, consulting with physicians and nurses, and supervising the work of Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmaceutical services are currently provided to San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital (an Acute Psychiatric Hospital), Edgemoor Hospital (a Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility), Public Health Clinics, Behavioral Health Clinics, and other locations throughout the County of San Diego. Pharmacists will work at various locations.

There is currently one (1) vacancy however, the list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a current and valid Pharmacist license, without restriction or probation, issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy; AND,

Graduation from an accredited U.S. college or university, Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) Certification; or certified equivalency for foreign studies in pharmacy; AND,

One (1) year of verifiable experience as a registered pharmacist in one of the following licensed health care facilities: a pharmacy serving a skilled nursing facility, retail pharmacy, or hospital.

If you have completed a residency program, please include that in your work experience and attach the certification of completion.

Notes

Experience must have included IV admixture for positions at Edgemoor.

A doctoral degree in pharmacy is highly desirable.

A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

One or more board certifications from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), such as Pharmacotherapy (BCPS), Geriatric (BCGP), or Psychiatric (BCPP), Infectious Disease (BCIDP), Ambulatory Care (BCACP); and/or

Pharmacy post-graduate training (Residency) in Hospital, Geriatric, Psychiatric, Infectious Disease, or Ambulatory Care. Current residents are strongly encouraged to apply and indicate the date of completion.

HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES

Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.

Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

EVALUATION The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information provided on the employment and supplemental application forms.
