Overview

Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) is the largest independent full-line manufacturer of custom power distribution systems in North America. Founded more than 75 years ago in Fremont, California, IEM grew alongside Silicon Valley and today operates over 1.7 million square feet of manufacturing capacity. With $1B+ in annual sales and 10,000+ commissioned projects across technology, data centers, commercial, energy, utilities, healthcare, industrial, and infrastructure markets, IEM continues to deliver exceptional product quality, dependable service, and the flexibility to meet complex technical requirements at scale. Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAM Engineer to join our advanced manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs for our Fab Lab equipment, tooling paths, assembly motion simulation, 3D scanning and fabrication strategies using CAD/CAM/CAE software. This role is essential to ensure efficient, accurate, and high-quality products. Key Responsibilities

Programming and Optimization: Translate our SolidWorks drawings to CNC programs using CAM software for all the equipment in Fab Lab. Use 3D models, 2D drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, bill of materials, and other instructions or procedures to accurately fabricate components. Define tooling paths, machine parameters, and machine setups for various materials and geometries for CNC laser/punch, CNC mill, CNC lathe, CNC Router, CNC Bending machines. Optimize cycle times and tool usage to improve efficiency and reduce waste by using 3D printers and 3D scanners. Collaborate with design engineers, Industrialization Engineer and Ops Lead to ensure manufacturability of parts. Apply DFX (Design for Excellence) IEM principles Process Development and Documentation: Document setup sheets, tooling lists, and instructions for repeatability. Support the development of fabrication protocols for prototype and production builds. Ensure traceability and version control of CAM files and process documentation. Responsible for ensuring the network infrastructure is operating reliably to support the secure storage, transfer, and execution of CNC programs on manufacturing equipment. Responsible for preparing program and parameter packages for use in mass production facilities, ensuring they are properly configured, stored, and ready for deployment to manufacturing equipment. Equipment and Tooling Support: Assist in the selection and maintenance of cutting tools, fixtures, and CNC equipment. Troubleshoot machining issues and propose corrective actions. Coordinate with suppliers for tooling and machine upgrades. Quality and Continuous Improvement: Ensure machining processes meet dimensional and surface finish requirements. Responsible for comparing 3D scans with CAD models to identify deviations, validate dimensional accuracy, and propose design or manufacturing improvements. Responsible for managing the 3D printing of initial prototypes prior to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring design validation. Responsible for the design, development, and fabrication of assembly and inspection fixtures to support manufacturing and quality processes. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for machining defects. Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Analyze machining data to identify bottlenecks and propose process enhancements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Industrialization, Ops and design teams to align manufacturing strategies. Provide technical support and training to CNC operators and technicians.
