Overview Perform a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, prevention of crime, preservation of public peace, and apprehension of criminals. Interact consistently with supervisors, campus employees, students, and visitors.
Responsibilities
Engage in law‑enforcement patrol functions by foot, bike, or vehicle; conduct rotating shifts; physically check doors and windows of buildings to ensure security.
Operate law‑enforcement vehicles during day and night; handle emergency situations, including speeds in excess of posted limits, congested traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
Effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects with approved maneuvers and weapons.
Exercise independent judgment in determining reasonable suspicion for detention, probable cause for search and arrest, and appropriate use of force.
Prepare investigative reports, including sketches, using proper grammar, symbols, and mathematical calculations.
Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters—directing traffic, providing emergency medical aid, lifting and removing individuals from dangerous situations.
Mediate disputes and advise rights and processes.
Gather information for criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants; detect and collect evidence that supports criminal charges.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
High‑school diploma, GED, or vocational school diploma.
Night and overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility for on‑site daily service hours.
No prior experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; 1–3 years as a police officer within a department or military service with an honorable discharge (DD‑214); experience in a related field.
Abilities and Skills
Physical demands: frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, use of hands and arms; occasional lifting/moving over 100 pounds.
Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Excellent verbal and written communication; honesty, initiative, independent judgment, and ability to prepare reports.
