Public Safety Officer - Multiple Openings
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Regular/Temporary: Regular
Full/Part Time: Full-Time
Pay range: $17.38/hr - $23.64/hr
Job Summary Perform a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property. Assist with prevention of crime, preservation of the public peace, calls for service, and basic police services in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the Georgia Tech Police and in compliance with governing federal and state laws. This position will interact on a consistent basis with supervisor, co-workers, GT employees, students and campus visitors, advising and counseling GT employees, students, and visitors. No supervision required.
Responsibilities
Engage in law enforcement patrol functions by foot, bike or other motorized equipment physically checking doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are secure. Conduct visual and audio surveillance.
Assist police officers with an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects using maneuvers and weapons (non-firearms) and resort to the use of hands and feet and other approved weapons in self-defense.
Prepare investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations.
Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include directing traffic for long periods of time, administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging and removing people from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from particular areas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma
Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
Up to three years of job related experience.
CPR and First Aid certifications (preferred).
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college coursework (preferred).
Abilities Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to take action quickly; use independent judgement; ability to prepare reports; physical ability to lift and move more than 100 pounds; knowledge of law enforcement duties.
