Responsibilities
Provide oversight and direction of the education programs and services including K-12, high school, GED/Adult Education, graduation incentive, fee-based/contract education, extra-curricular activities, school clothing, college, vocational scholarship program, recreation activities, and Me-Wuk Language activities.
Establish policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective utilization of time; protection of privacy for participants, consistent and unbiased delivery of services, evaluation of services, and responsiveness to community needs.
Develop systems to ensure coordinated services between schools, parents, and the Learning Center.
Develop systems to ensure coordinated services between education, recreation, and language programs.
Work with Columbia College or other colleges to coordinate curriculum selection, class scheduling, enrollment, and attendance for the College Center.
Develop program recommendations and budgets.
Coordinate Education Advisory Committee meetings.
Pursue grant funding.
Evaluate and improve library services for the community.
Work with Tribal programs to develop on-site higher education and vocational programs.
Supervise, evaluate, and coordinate staff activities for all hourly positions at the Learning Center.
Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure effective staff coverage for hours of operation.
Provide academic counseling for high school age students to ensure college or career choices are available upon graduation.
Assist in the development of culturally appropriate curriculum and activities with the Cultural Department and Tribal Cultural Committee.
Promote programs and activities and keep the community aware of all services and activities available through the Learning Center.
Encourage parent participation in all phases of their children’s educational process.
Other duties and responsibilities are normally associated with the development and operation of educational programs.
Qualifications
Master’s degree from a credentialed college/university preferred.
Must possess a California teaching credential.
Minimum of five years of experience in the educational field and at least three years of education administration experience.
Experience working in a Native American environment highly preferred.
Ability to establish rapport with the Native American community and the public schools.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work with children and families.
Valid California driver’s license and compliance with the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
