Senior Business Officer, Academic Planning and Operations
Position Summary
The Senior Business Officer, Academic Planning and Operations, is a senior, strategic leader who serves as a comprehensive resource and expert advisor to the 19 business officers across the university's colleges and academic units. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Budget, this role is a pivotal member of the Provost’s Office leadership team and holds a lead business partner role for college- and unit- leadership across Academic Affairs.
This position provides strategic financial and operational support for the entire Division of Academic Affairs, which comprises 50% ($450m) of the university’s $900m annual budget, and is responsible for ensuring operational continuity, excellence, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Support the Associate Provost for Academic Budget.
Serve as a divisional leader and resource for business officers and their teams.
Provide professional guidance and advisement.
Act in a College or Unit Business Officer role temporarily, as needed.
Perform a range of financial and accounting related duties: monitoring, analysis, budget planning, resource management, and compliance.
Minimum Requirements
Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree with at least five (5) years of related professional experience, or
Relevant undergraduate degree with at least seven (7) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree, MBA preferred.
Higher education experience, preferably within academic affairs.
Experience overseeing budget planning, financial management, resource allocation, business services, and human resources.
Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, managerial, leadership, and teamwork skills.
Systems experience: extracting and manipulating complex data from an ERP system such as PeopleSoft or Banner; Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex financial reports.
