Scope of the Position Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians install, repair, or maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s or site specifications. Technicians use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments, working in a shift environment.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect, repair, and replace instruments, valves, disconnects, starters, filters, motors, bearings, and other equipment.

Lubricate motors, valves, and bearings; perform preventive maintenance to prolong equipment life.

Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble automatic valves, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Measure, cut, bend, and install conduit, fittings, and tubing; install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wire, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber‑optic and coaxial cable assemblies, and lighting fixtures.

Drill and tap metal and plastics to produce parts or install new equipment.

Create a list of materials needed for specific jobs.

Lock, tag, and test energy sources to ensure safe work conditions.

Plan and coordinate work with other trades while installing or replacing parts.

Inspect ladders, tools, job sites, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, and electrical cords for safety.

Communicate with employees via radios, telephones, or email to perform jobs efficiently.

Troubleshoot and repair automatic valves, electrical starters, motors, relays, pneumatic, and electronic instrumentation.

Perform routine maintenance on electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical devices using hand and power tools.

Calibrate, service, troubleshoot, and maintain flow, level, temperature transmitters, and online process analyzers.

Build brackets and hangers to secure items.

Repair or replace automatic valves to restore operation.

Test and repair solid‑state electronic devices.

Create, review, and modify job procedures, SOPs, and other knowledge documents.

What You Need to Be Successful

High school diploma or GED equivalency required.

Five (5) years of industry experience in instrumentation and electrical work.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, and schematics.

Good verbal and written communication skills and computer knowledge.

Physical Demands of the Job Employees frequently sit, stand, walk, reach, lift (up to 50 lbs), climb stairs/ladders, and perform work in awkward or confined spaces. Long hours of sitting in an office environment and general fitness are required.

Medical Requirement Annual medical examinations are required, including pulmonary function tests and respirator fit; employees must be able to wear a respirator as a condition of employment.
