Lead Auditor (Revenue Auditor 3) – Spokane
This opportunity is open only to current Washington State Department of Revenue employees.
The Audit Division is hiring a Lead Auditor (RA3) in Spokane, WA.
Responsibilities • Audit large and technically diverse business organizations; evaluate business activities and accounting records for compliance with applicable tax laws and proper reporting.
• Utilize extensive knowledge of electronic accounting software to test, analyze, and evaluate taxpayer’s accounting system.
• Conduct advanced sample planning with taxpayer information systems personnel and/or DOR Computer Audit Specialists to determine appropriate statistical sampling methods.
• Train new auditors, develop and manage training plans, mentor staff, and serve as an ongoing resource for taxpayer education.
Qualifications
Advanced Knowledge of Accounting Principles and Tools:
• Demonstrated expertise in applying accounting principles; advanced understanding of financial statements, general ledgers, and journal entries; proficiency in advanced Excel functions; in-depth knowledge of GAAP.
Research, Analysis, and Problem Solving:
• Advanced critical thinking to evaluate financial data, identify risk exposure, and develop solutions; ability to research, interpret, and apply federal and state tax laws.
Planning and Organization:
• Extensive experience leading multiple assignments or projects simultaneously; ability to evaluate progress and adjust organization to meet deadlines.
Communication (Written and Verbal):
• Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to synthesize complex tax information into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
Adaptability:
• Openness toward changing ideas, responsibilities, strategies, and processes; experience working autonomously and collaboratively.
Preferred Experience
Two (2) years as a Revenue Auditor 2 plus four (4) years of professional accounting, tax compliance, or tax examination experience.
Eight (8) years in accounting, banking, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus two (2) years as a Revenue Auditor 2.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or allied field with 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of accounting, plus two (2) years as a Revenue Auditor 2.
Bachelor’s or graduate degree eligible for the CPA exam plus two (2) years as a Revenue Auditor 2.
Bachelor’s or graduate degree eligible for the CPA exam plus four (4) years of professional accounting, tax compliance, or tax examination experience.
