Senior Controls Engineer – Painesville, Ohio We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to improve and troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems, including PLCs and drives, to support the manufacturing site. This role reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities
Control system design, programming, testing, and commissioning.
PLC programming, troubleshooting, and HMI screen configuration.
Perform root‑cause problem solving to resolve production and quality issues associated with equipment, machine performance, and process flow.
Drive and support productivity improvements through changes to programming, equipment, and HMI screens.
Assist in capital planning for drives and controls to support divisional strategy.
Develop and maintain best practices for drives, controls, and SCADA systems.
Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment; test circuits; replace power and control circuits.
Inspect circuits and wiring for shielding, grounding, and safety; test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.
Work from schematics, drawings, and layouts to locate and diagnose electrical system problems.
Create and update electrical schematics and drawings.
Standardize drive and controls systems across the division and close gaps against best practices.
Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering to ensure equipment reliability.
Identify safety issues, support safety initiatives, and recommend solutions.
Provide technical support for technology upgrade projects to improve product quality and manufacturing effectiveness.
Conduct training for proper machine adjustments and operations.
Maintain a flexible schedule to support 24/7 operations as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
8+ years of experience in controls or electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
Expertise in automation, drives, and PLC control systems.
Knowledge of the Electric Code.
Proficiency in troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
Strong understanding of PLC ladder logic and ability to edit systems.
Hands‑on troubleshooting with root‑cause analysis.
Ability to execute multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
Hands‑on experience with Parker SSD, AB Powerflex, Siemens S120 drives and Siemens TIA Portal, RSLogix, Studio 5000, etc.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with HMI software (FactoryTalk View, Wonderware Intouch).
Compensation The salary range for this position is $115,000–$150,000 per year.
