Full‑time, regular position.

Position Overview The Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (SVMI) is a seasoned forestry professional responsible for inspecting, auditing, and monitoring contractor performance for vegetation management. The SVMI plans, directs, and coordinates tree clearance crews and serves as a liaison between clients, crews, and customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Resolve obstacles to ensure work is completed safely, cost‑effectively, and on time.

Manage day‑to‑day activities, ensuring personnel focus on scope, use of equipment, and documentation.

Act as the VM contact for new business and re‑construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization.

Approve scheduling and scope changes in the field with PG&E representative approval.

Promote safety culture, conduct Safety Observations and Good Catches.

Audit work performed by VMIs for compliance.

Assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors.

Support PGE Work Verification team to ensure timely resolution of observations.

Maintain relationships with public agencies (Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, BLM).

Maintain relationships with PG&E’s tree contractors for escalated work such as customer complaints.

Patrol distribution or transmission circuits, prescribe work, and ensure clearances comply for a minimum of one year.

Determine trim or removal needs, assessing potential hazards.

Prescribe tree pruning and removal to facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements and PG&E standards.

Use computers for reports and data updates within PG&E’s VMDSRs.

Perform quality‑check audits on assigned VMIs for field compliance and data integrity.

Assist in outage investigations, emergency response, fire/incident investigations, and customer claims investigations as required.

Ensure all line sections are patrolled according to the annual plan and document under PG&E’s mapping procedure.

Identify and notify PG&E representative of newly identified idle and private lines.

Perform additional work as directed by PG&E representative or standards.

Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements

Driving vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.

Walking on uneven ground, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature, humidity, or wetness.

Operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement.

Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, chemicals; prolonged sitting during driving/meetings/trainings.

Use of forestry tools (clinometer, range finder, logger’s tape, DBH tape) and safety gear (hard hat, safety vest, glasses).

Qualifications Must meet the general requirements below:

High School diploma or GED.

Class C driver’s license.

Active ISA Arborist certification required.

Experience Requirements (must meet one)

5 years as a tree crew climber/foreman with at least 2 years of line clearance certification.

5 years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist.

5 years as a Registered Professional Forester.

5 years as a Utility Inspector (or higher) with at least 1 year of vegetation management experience.

4 years of Military Service with honorable discharge and at least 1 year of vegetation management inspection experience, with PG&E approval.

Required Skills

Identify local trees and understand growth rates.

High communication, organization, and customer‑service skills.

Experience with data‑collection devices, GIS software, and Microsoft Office.

Self‑motivated, organized, production‑oriented, with strong verbal and written communication.

Ability to work in varied terrain, inclement weather, and flexible schedules (nights, weekends).

Ability to learn and use company‑specific software systems.

Strong work ethic, adaptability, independence, and teamwork.

Training

OSHA 30‑hour construction safety (within six months of start).

Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP) or Certified Arborist (CA) with TRAQ certificate (within six months).

911 Standby training (within one month).

Working knowledge of QA/QC (within one month).

Computer training (forms, GIS, documents) (within one month).

Supervisor Responsibilities

Serve as liaison between client representatives and Operations Manager.

Base Compensation: $50.35 per hour

FLSA: Non‑Exempt

Bargaining Role: Yes

Salary Range: $50.35 per hour (Base); $62.94 per hour total with in‑lieu of benefits ($12.59/hour)

Union Members: $50 per day subsistence payment for days >4 hours

Location: Grass Valley, CA (candidates must reside within 50 miles)
