Pay Range $118,000.00/yr – $138,000.00/yr

Job Overview The Project Engineering Group Lead provides technical leadership for project engineers and manages capital projects supporting pharmaceutical drug substance, intermediate, and fine chemical development and production. The role focuses on civil, mechanical, and equipment/facilities design and installation projects, ensuring project costs, schedules, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the development of project business cases, objectives, and alternatives, and build consensus with stakeholders.

Plan, coordinate, and direct engineering efforts for assigned projects, mentoring others and ensuring cost, scope, and schedule requirements are met.

Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, contract requirements, and specifications.

Develop plans and secure resources for technical studies, system designs, construction, and qualification.

Resolve disputes and conflicts with external contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.

Coach, mentor, and train less experienced engineers on technical and business issues.

Manage project activities such as requirement specification, scope development, process design, funding requests, and qualification efforts.

Act as the Technical Lead for project engineering concerns and provide updates to Production Management and Leadership.

Leadership & Budget Responsibilities

Set goals and priorities, manage training and development, and coach teams to achieve project objectives.

Develop scopes, justifications, cost budgets, personnel requirements, and timelines for major projects.

Supervise daily activities, manage performance appraisals, and resolve conflicts.

Safety & Environmental Responsibilities Ensure all work activities are performed safely, adhering to all safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) or related field. 10+ years of related experience preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific journals, financial reports, and legal documents; communicate effectively in reports and presentations.

Mathematical Skills:

Advanced calculus, algebra, and statistics; basic accounting and financial principles applicable to project management.

Reasoning Ability:

Logical or scientific thinking across a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

No specific certificates, licenses, or registrations required.

Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

Physical Demands Typical duties include speaking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and carrying up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision with focus adjustment.

Work Environment Work occurs in a quiet office setting with occasional exposure to wet and humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, extreme temperatures, and varying weather. Noise levels are typically quiet.

In-depth knowledge of equipment selection and bulk pharmaceutical processing.

Effective communication across all organizational levels.

Experience with qualification and validation systems.

Knowledge of QSHE regulatory compliance (FDA, cGMP, EPA, OSHA, PSM).

Business acumen including basic accounting and ROI/IRR analysis.

Proficiency with SAP and procurement procedures.

Ability to generate innovative solutions that meet site and project needs.
