CHIEF OPERATING ENGINEER Position Profile
Reports to: DIRECTOR OF HOTEL OPERATIONS, position is exempt.

The Role The Chief Operating Engineer reports to the Director of Hotel Operations and, like all qualified engineers, possesses diverse knowledge of electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, and HVAC refrigeration. As an operating engineer, this position requires being hands‑on and diving into the day‑to‑day operation, service and repairs of hotel equipment. The role also actively develops trusting and transparent relations with fellow managers and associates of the hotel.

Uphold and role‑model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character; ensure direct reports also model our values.
Active participant in interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and motivating Facilities and Maintenance associates.
Lead pre‑opening and post‑opening planning to ensure a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
Assign associates to complete needed activities, inspect their accomplishments, and monitor to ensure standards are met.
Observe conditions of all physical facilities and collaborate with other divisions and vendors for cleaning and preventive maintenance programs.
Be responsible for safety, security, and well‑being of hotel guests and associates; respond swiftly to emergencies.
Fluent in operational metrics, KPIs, and P&L’s; provide coaching and corrective action.
Participate in all Hotel Operations meetings, provide suggestions and feedback.
Lead or partner with external contractors to assure quality and timeliness of work.
Communicate regularly with the Director of Hotel Operations to provide updates and align priorities.
Ensure the hotel and company are a smoke‑free, drug‑free facility and an equal opportunity employer.

What You Will Need
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience within a Maintenance and Facilities leadership role.
Degree or certifications in HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration or Life Safety Systems.
Advanced knowledge of hotel property, plant and equipment and preventative maintenance systems.
Pre‑opening experience within the hotel or residential preferred.
Proficiency in English language reading, writing, and verbal communication.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Knowledge of computer‑assisted maintenance (MPS and BMS).
Ability to stand, sit, walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Ability to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
