Facilities and Safety Manager Description: The Facilities and Safety Manager plans, and implements programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. Oversees the preventive maintenance systems to ensure company equipment and facilities are maintained in safe, functioning working order with a minimum of downtime and business disruption. This position is responsible for managing all corrective maintenance with urgency, ensuring compliance on facility, safety, environmental and equipment related permitting, utilizing both internal and external resources in a timely and cost‑effective manner.

Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates safety activities through supervisory personnel and HR, to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout organization.

Ensure that facility is safe, clean, and well‑maintained, meeting health and safety standards.

Evaluates problematic systems or facilities and determines the installation or repair services that need to be performed.

Actively engages in troubleshooting and repairing equipment and facilities.

Coordinates outside contractors to perform work on equipment and facilities. Sends out requests for quotation of work, evaluates multiple bids and makes recommendation to Sr. Director of Operations to schedule work on time and within budget.

Supervises and coordinates activities relating to equipment moves, upgrades and or installation with outside contractors.

Develops, organizes work schedules and directs both internal and external resources engaged in major upkeep/repair projects; performing structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings; and maintaining and repairing building utility systems, such as plumbing, structures, custodial services and grounds, electrical wiring and controls, heating, and ventilating systems.

Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems.

Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for all repairs, maintenance, and improvements around facility.

Supervises HAZMAT activities in collaboration with production and warehouse personnel.

Coordinates activities with internal and external resources to comply with all relevant building and safety regulations; City and CAL‑OSHA Compliance.

Evaluates outside activity’s performance to ensure quality operations; and inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.

Performs training on safety, material handling equipment and HAZMAT as required.

Investigates accidents and collaborates with HR and Operations to prepare appropriate reports and corrective actions.

May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Ensures employee compliance with company safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to those documented in the Employee Handbook.

Leads company culture of employee safety and well‑being. Demonstrates a strong commitment to all safety policies and regulations at all times. Resolves any known or potential safety concerns immediately.

Responds and provides emergency support, if needed, outside regular working hours. Expected to take reasonable measures to cooperate with the company during emergencies to respond telephonically or by reporting back to work if the situation requires the company’s discretion.

Promotes and actively demonstrates company visions and values.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing equipment and facilities maintenance.

Knowledge and experience in Environmental Health and Safety Programs, CAL‑OSHA safety standards and regulations.

Ability to read, understand and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and other technical information related to equipment and facilities.

Excellent knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical systems and HVAC preventive maintenance practices. Experience in troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance of these systems.

Knowledge of an Environmental Health and Safety Program, CAL‑OSHA safety standards and regulations.

Understanding of SDS statements, usage of HAZMAT products and ability to train other staff or volunteers in safe use of potential hazardous or non‑hazardous materials.

Experience in Lean manufacturing principles a plus – kaizen, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance, etc.

Proven ability to organize and plan work effectively.

Strong working knowledge of industry regulations.

Proven ability to drive a culture of safety when performing or leading maintenance activities.

Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, desire to grow and take on challenges and opportunities.

Exhibits high standards and integrity in dealings with internal personnel, suppliers, and customers.

Able to carry out required tasks and pre‑established goals in accordance with schedules and quantified measurement criterion.

Proven ability to develop innovative solutions in a challenging work environment.

Must maintain confidentiality of work‑related information and materials.

Experience in evaluating proposals from outside contractors and making recommendations to senior leadership.

Proficient computer skills required and familiarity with PM software applications.

Ability to read, interpret and communicate documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals, equipment schematics, engineering drawings and blueprints.

Knowledge of safety measures pertinent to each job assignment.
