What You’ll Do As the Food Services Director, you will operate a school breakfast and lunch program as established by the National School Lunch Program. You’ll lead a dedicated team in providing healthy, appealing, and nutritious meals for our students, fueling their success in and out of the classroom. This position combines operational excellence with a heart for service, offering the opportunity to use your skills in leadership, finance, menu planning, and nutrition to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives.
Education, Training, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in any academic major and at least two years of relevant school nutrition program experience. (See USDA Professional Standards)
Experience in Institutional Food Service Management and Business Administration.
Strong leadership, organizational, and financial management skills.
Ability to build relationships, motivate staff, and create a culture of teamwork and pride in service.
Must have ServSafe Certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Creates menus in accordance with district, state & federal guidelines, available equipment, student acceptability, and economy (time and cost).
Authorizes/arranges inter‑school transfers of food and supplies.
Prepares bids and Request for Proposals (RFP’s) for food, supplies and equipment purchases.
Purchases food and supplies.
Checks daily deposits and work sheets.
Sets up payment of bills monthly.
Approves timecards for payment bi‑weekly.
Prepares profit and loss monthly.
Prepares contracts with USDA and PA Dept. of Education yearly.
Prepares state reports monthly.
Initiates and reviews contracts involving processing of government commodities.
Submits reports, as requested, to superintendent, school board, business manager, federal and state agencies.
Prepares documentation for Local, State & Federal audits.
Supervises all cafeteria employees and recommends employment of cafeteria employees.
Provides for the training of cafeteria staff as needed.
