Build responsive, scalable UIs using Jetpack Compose to deliver intuitive and engaging user experiences.
Integrate media playback features using ExoPlayer, including support for adaptive streaming (HLS/DASH) and Widevine DRM.
Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate RESTful APIs and streaming services, handling playback metadata, DRM, entitlements, and personalization logic.
Optimize application performance for a wide range of Android devices using system profiling, app tracing, and trace analysis.
Ensure application compatibility across various Android OS versions and device configurations.
Debug and resolve device-specific issues using ADB, Android Studio Profiler, and real-world logs.
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and internal documentation to maintain high code quality and consistency.
Stay current with industry trends and best practices in Android development and mobile UX.
About the Team VIZIO’s Technology – Software and Services team is seeking a
Software Engineer III – Android
to join our growing mobile development team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a talented group of engineers and contribute to the innovation and improvement of VIZIO’s mobile products. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering and does not include direct reports. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative team, and to support that, we work onsite 5 days a week at our Dallas, TX location.
About You
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronics & Communications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
At least 3 years of professional experience in Android development.
Experience in architecture, design, prototyping, software development, code review, and unit testing for mobile applications.
Expert proficiency in Kotlin and Java.
Deep knowledge of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern Android UI/UX patterns.
Strong experience with Kotlin Coroutines, including structured concurrency, lifecycle‑aware scopes, and Flow for reactive programming.
Familiarity with RxJava is a plus.
Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and backend integration.
Proficient in Git and modern CI/CD workflows.
Skilled with Android Studio, ADB, and Android Profiler.
Familiar with dependency management tools like Gradle.
Proficient in Jetpack components and architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVP.
Experience with ExoPlayer, Widevine DRM, and adaptive streaming (HLS/DASH).
Understanding of video analytics, playback monitoring, and QoS/QoE metrics.
Strong grasp of performance and memory optimization techniques for mobile platforms.
Hands‑on experience with modern Android tools and libraries such as Firebase, Room, Hilt, and WorkManager.
Preferred Skills
4+ years of professional experience in Android development.
Familiarity with cross‑platform frameworks (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile).
Experience implementing deep linking, content discovery, and voice input integrations.
Exposure to Smart TV or OTT platforms is a plus.
Experience working with media catalog ingestion, metadata, and content curation.

Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Stock.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly, aligned with Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines.
