to conduct a search for its next Director of Human Resources.
Founded in 1887, the Detroit Athletic Club (often referred to as the “DAC”) is one of the oldest and most-respected private athletic and social clubs in the U.S. The DAC has earned the distinction of being named the #1 Athletic Club in the country, and a Platinum Club of America by the Club Leaders Forum.
POSITION OVERVIEW As a member of the senior leadership team reporting directly to the Executive Manager/CEO, this key role is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies that support the Club’s vision, culture, and operational goals. The Director of Human Resources manages all aspects of the HR function, including talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, employee engagement, compliance, performance management, training, organizational development, and employee benefit and retirement programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the Club’s goals and objectives.
Oversee the full-cycle recruitment process to attract, hire and retain top talent.
Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure staffing levels align with operational needs and budgetary constraints.
Cultivate a positive work environment that balances both union and non-union employee needs through proactive engagement and conflict resolution.
Drive initiatives to measure and improve employee satisfaction, motivation, and retention.
Take the lead on negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements, interfacing with union representatives, and proactively addressing potential labor issues.
Oversee the development and implementation of performance management systems and processes.
Ensure compliance and risk management systems are in place, including adherence to federal, state and local laws and OSHA record keeping and reporting requirements.
Develop and update HR policies to reflect best practices.
Administer competitive compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain employees.
Maintain leaves of absence and workers’ compensation processes.
Identify training needs and oversee the implementation of professional development programs, while fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Lead and manage the HR team and HR operations with a focus on driving continuous improvement, leveraging HR technology, and measuring performance and improvement through HR metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
A broad knowledge and experience in major facets of Human Resources, including employment law, compensation, talent acquisition, organizational planning and development, employee and labor relations, safety and training.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate effectively with a wide range of employees and stakeholders.
Ability to work with a high degree of confidentiality.
A commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion and collaboration.
Ability to work a full-time schedule onsite in Detroit, Michigan.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Six to ten years or more of diversified experience in a Human Resources Leadership role.
Previous HR experience in a high-rated (4+ Star), full-service hotel or club is REQUIRED.
Experience in a unionized environment is REQUIRED.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related course of study.
HR certification (such as SHRM-CP, SPHR or HRIC) and/or a certification in labor relations preferred.
COMPENSATION In the $130 - $150k range with bonus opportunity. This amount is dependent upon relevant experience.
