General Expectations: This position is hybrid: remote leading up to the event and fully in-person during the festival dates. Scheduling will be determined based on event and departmental needs in coordination with the Marketing Team. Occasional in-person prep meetings may be required prior to the event. Any outside commitments that could impact availability should be communicated to the supervisor as early as possible.
Compensation: $23/hr
Benefits: This is a part-time position during Outfest’s reconstruction phase. As such, no traditional benefits (such as health insurance or paid time off) are currently offered.
This position is non-exempt and all authorized hours worked will be paid in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
Roles and Responsibilities Position Summary: The Social Media Coordinator supports OutfestNEXT’s digital presence by capturing the energy and spirit of the festival in real time across social platforms. Working closely with the Communications and Marketing teams, this role will produce social‑first content, support live event coverage, engage online audiences, and help tell the story of OutfestNEXT to our community and beyond. This is a fast‑paced role that thrives on creativity, adaptability, and strong communication.
The role is part‑time, with shifts scheduled based on coverage needs during the festival. Additional pre‑event work will be required.
Content Creation & Publishing
Capture and post real‑time content (photo, video, Stories, Reels, TikToks) from festival screenings, panels, and red carpets.
Support development and publishing of pre‑scheduled content (countdowns, filmmaker spotlights, daily recaps, etc.).
Ensure content aligns with Outfest brand standards for tone, accessibility, and visual identity.
Assist with editing, captioning, tagging, and metadata needs for festival posts.
Live Event & Red Carpet Coverage
Film short‑form content at venues, capturing audience buzz and community moments.
Conduct social‑focused interviews with filmmakers, talent, and guests.
Coordinate with festival photographers, videographers, and PR teams to ensure cohesive storytelling.
Community Engagement
Monitor and engage with audience comments, tags, and DMs during festival windows.
Repost and amplify content from filmmakers, partners, and press as appropriate.
Marketing & Team Support
Help schedule posts, track engagement analytics, and support post‑festival reporting.
Collaborate on email and social promotional needs for screenings and updates.
Qualifications
1–2 years of social media or digital content experience (including internships or freelance).
Skilled with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, and native publishing tools.
Demonstrated experience shooting and editing vertical content in fast‑paced settings.
Strong interpersonal skills with comfort capturing content in live events and red carpet environments.
Clear communicator who works well collaboratively and responds well to direction.
