Description
Under the direction of the Skyway Maintenance Supervisor, the Skyway Technician performs daily inspections, testing, diagnostic analysis and maintenance of the Skyway vehicles.
Essential Function(s):
Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and replace various types of components/units as required on Skyway vehicles and equipment. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical units, including but not limited to diagnosing, removing and replacing electrical/electronic components and making wiring repairs. Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on Skyway vehicles; complete records and paperwork required for work performed. Stay current on Skyway Training. Conform with and abide by all regulations, JTA policies, work procedures, and instructions. Conform to all safety rules and wear/use all appropriate safety equipment. Perform other related work or duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
Associate of Arts/Sciences degree in digital electronic technology, or in a closely related field, from an accredited college or university; or technical training in a digital electronic technology or a closely related field. Possess HVAC 608 certification. Two (2) years of hands-on experience troubleshooting/repairing electronic and mechanical systems. Must have a valid Florida Driver's license. Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree. Prior or current Skyway Technician Experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic operating principles of analog and digital electronics, electrical and electronic circuitry and mechanical mechanisms, methods and procedures for the repair. Knowledge of installation and maintenance of electrical, electronic, mechanical and electromechanical yard control and train control equipment. Knowledge of methods and procedures for testing and troubleshooting yard control and train control equipment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the transit system. Skill locating, defining, and repairing defects in a wide variety of general or specialized transit equipment. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with employees of all levels within an organization. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, manuals, and work orders. Ability to operate drill presses, grinders, presses, and similar shop equipment. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work as part of a team.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
The Skyway Technician must be willing to work nights, holidays, weekends, and any hours assigned. This position works in open bays, inside buses, and outside in varying weather conditions. The position may require exposure to fumes and vapors and the use/handling of commercial cleaners and toxic materials. Physical demands include: lifting at least 50 lbs.; repetitively bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, and twisting safely; and sitting for extended periods of time.
