Location BOSTON, MA, United States
Responsibilities Police Officers will respond to and investigate criminal activity, provide crime prevention and awareness, conduct critical incident response and management, and deliver personalized safety education. Officers will collaborate with other area colleges, universities, and local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies to maximize community safety. Additionally, officers are expected to maintain an inclusive, equitable, and diverse working environment and engage in community policing practices.
Required Skills
Graduate of a Full‑Time MA State Police Academy, Full‑Time MPTC Academy, or equivalent.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; tuition remission available.
At least 21 years old.
Eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63.
Massachusetts Class A License to Carry.
Valid driver’s license.
Pass all POST Commission background requirements, including psychological exam, drug test, and pre‑employment medical exam.
Applicants with an out‑of‑state recruit academy must obtain a permanent exemption through Massachusetts State Police.
Demonstrated understanding of community policing within a diverse, urban university environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Good judgment and independent decision making.
Shift Assignments Shift work is governed by collective bargaining agreements between the University and the Boston University Police Patrol Officers Association. Candidates must be able to work all shifts, including holidays and weekends. Overtime may be mandatory.
Pay Up to $38.49 per hour based on experience, with the hiring range currently listed at $33.54/hour.
