Shift:
Primarily Days with Rotation to Evenings — Weekend and Holiday Work may be required (8-hour shifts) Description: Minimum Requirements Education: High school graduate or equivalent Graduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalent Experience: Preference given to candidates with hospital laboratory phlebotomy experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Effective communication with co-workers, patients, medical staff, and visitors Ability to make mature judgments Pleasant personality for patient interaction License/Certification/Registration: Certified Phlebotomist (ASCP, AMT, CLSI, or equivalent) Must meet American Heart Association standards for BLS (renew every 2 years) ⚕️
Supervision Received: General supervision from Medical Director, Administrative Director, Assistant Administrative Director, Supervising Technologist, and Section Heads ⚙️
Essential Functions: Collects blood via venipuncture, arterial puncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques per lab procedure Verifies patient ID before specimen collection Responds promptly to specimen collection requests and communicates any delays Performs bedside glucose testing and maintains quality control Prepares, labels, and delivers specimens accurately for processing Instructs patients on proper specimen collection (urine, sputum, chain of custody, etc.) Maintains organized, error-free workflow Provides assistance and communication to lab staff and patient care teams Seeks supervisor guidance when specimen handling or orders are unclear Prepares and documents specimens for reference lab testing Maintains clean, stocked collection areas Assists in report distribution, glassware washing, and laboratory organization Complies with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, and PA Department of Health standards Follows all safety, infection control, and QA procedures Maintains confidentiality and accurate documentation for patient information Ensures inventory control, cost efficiency, and reagent management Assists in implementing and evaluating new lab procedures or products Suggests improvements in accuracy and workflow efficiency Non-Essential Functions: Performs related duties as assigned Assists staff during workload fluctuations Works weekends/holidays or rotates shifts as needed (assigned by seniority)
