Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA) is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit founded in July 2021. We advocate for incarcerated Texans and their loved ones by supporting affected families, raising public awareness, and fostering empowerment through education, collaboration, and connection to community resources. Our mission is to create humane conditions within the Texas prison system.

Position Overview
TPCA is currently seeking nominations and applications for Volunteer Board Members, including a candidate to serve in the key leadership role of
Board Treasurer . This is a remote volunteer opportunity ideal for someone with a financial background and a passion for justice reform. General Board Member Responsibilities Support TPCA’s mission, policies, and strategic priorities Attend and actively engage in board meetings and special events Serve on at least one board committee Participate thoughtfully in board discussions Assist in fundraising efforts and make an annual personal contribution Use personal and professional networks to promote TPCA’s work Represent TPCA in the community and advocate for its mission and values Comply with TPCA’s conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies Commit to 5–20 hours per month
Treasurer Responsibilities The Treasurer serves on TPCA’s Executive Committee and chairs the Finance Committee. Key duties include: Overseeing nonprofit financial accounting and compliance Maintaining records of all financial activities Managing funds in alignment with TPCA’s policies and budget Presenting monthly financial statements to the board Leading financial planning and reviews with the Finance Committee Collaborating with the Executive Director and financial volunteers Preparing and presenting the annual budget Overseeing audits and ensuring transparency in financial reporting
Ideal Candidate We welcome diverse and dynamic individuals with: Experience in financial management or accounting (nonprofit experience preferred) Strong attention to detail and commitment to transparency Prior board experience or formal governance training Passion for criminal justice reform and community-based advocacy Strategic thinking and strong communication skills Availability to participate in board meetings, committee work, and financial oversight
