Associate General Counsel

We are a fast-growing construction company seeking an experienced attorney with a broad range of experience in construction contracts, litigation, transactions, employment law, and corporate governance. The ideal candidate will have more than 10 years of legal experience, including both law firm practice and in‑house counsel roles. This position requires providing strategic legal support to executives and field personnel, negotiating and drafting a wide range of contracts, managing disputes, and ensuring compliance with corporate and employment law requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of customer and vendor contracts, including construction contracts and change orders, commercial contracts, real estate documents, and employment‑related agreements.
Engage with internal stakeholders to develop strategies for mitigating risk exposure and enhancing operational efficiencies.
Provide high‑level legal support to the General Counsel on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and strategic initiatives.
Supervise and support internal and external resources in collections, liens, and complex contract disputes.
Manage litigation strategy, coordinate with outside counsel, and oversee dispute resolution.
Provide legal guidance on employment law and HR‑related matters, including compliance and workplace disputes.
Support real estate matters, including leases, landlord disputes, and property build‑outs.
Contribute to corporate development initiatives such as mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and risk assessments, identifying potential liabilities and strategic opportunities.
Provide general legal counsel to executives and business units across multiple jurisdictions.
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a nationally recognized law school and active licensure in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with significant time in both law firm and in‑house environments.
A minimum of five years of substantive experience in construction law, complex commercial transactions, and contract negotiation.
Broad experience across construction, corporate, commercial, litigation, and employment law matters.
Demonstrated expertise in handling sophisticated contract disputes, lien enforcement, and high‑value collections.
Proven ability to function independently in a high‑stakes, fast‑paced corporate environment, balancing multiple priorities with precision.
Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and strategic problem‑solving capabilities.
Superior communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of cross‑functional collaboration at executive levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience advising within the construction industry or a closely related sector.
In‑depth familiarity with regulatory compliance and legal risk management within the construction and specialty contracting domains.
Experience with corporate governance, compliance, and business licensing.
Familiarity with dispute avoidance strategies in construction and commercial contexts.
Exposure to specialized practice areas such as intellectual property or arbitration.
