Accountant – Middle East Broadcasting Networks
Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) is a non‑profit grantee that delivers news to the Middle East and North Africa. MBN’s mission is to provide objective, accurate, and relevant news to support U.S. public diplomacy.
We are hiring a short‑term contractor (four months) to support our Accounting team in Springfield, VA. The role focuses on specialized accounting functions including General Ledger Management, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, and Fixed Asset Management.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare journal entries and timely reconciliation of all G/L accounts, ledgers, fixed asset records, expenses, and domestic and overseas bank accounts.
Identify errors and risks that could impact financial statements in accordance with company policies, GAAP, and Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance.
Prepare special reports and financial studies for management and highlight significant variances.
Assist with the annual audit conducted by external auditors.
Coordinate the Fixed Asset process and record necessary journal entries.
Communicate with multiple organizational levels and elevate issues to appropriate management.
Process daily cash receipts and record them to appropriate cash accounts.
Audit domestic and international payrolls.
Record adjustments and re‑classes in CostPoint.
Oversee recording of returned wires and fees.
Maintain accounts receivable and liabilities accounts.
Record overseas cash activity, bank transfers, and fees.
Process and record payroll vouchers and travel reimbursements.
Manage corporate credit card activity.
Qualifications
BA/BS in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
Advanced knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, cost accounting, and general ledger entry process/reconciliation in accordance with GAAP.
Knowledge of U.S. federal and state financial regulations, including payroll tax laws and wage‑hour regulations.
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Hands‑on experience with ERP systems.
Experience with DELTEC CostPoint 7.
Knowledge of funds management and budgeting techniques.
Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
